I just hope you are prepared to invest thousands and thousands of dollars on protection. Those palms have a difficult time surviving in zone 6, WITH protection. You will need to build heated structures around each, and somehow have to heat the ground to keep it from freezing. Just be prepared for ALOT of palm loss this winter.

Thank you for your comments. We fully investigated what we would have to do to make this work. We consider these trees to be the final part of our architectural vision for the property and are fully committed to their long term sustenance.

I love palm trees and am growing a couple of windmill palms in Pennsylvania . While it may be possible it is not real easy .

Hopefully come spring the names are not

Dead
Deader
Deadest

I will be looking forward to seeing pictures of the winter protection and the results in the spring .

Good Luck ...

If it were me wintering over those palms in Iowa I would invest in alot of thick gauge pvc pipes, greenhouse plastic and lots of extension cords with a box of flood light or heat lamps. place light fixture inside with the light plugged into a thermostat so when the temps inside the mini greenhouse structure drop below ,,,lets say 30 degrees the light will come on and heat the inside struture up just enough to keep it from freezing,,,and you say that the hotel has 30 palms wow you are gona have to build alot of miniture greenhouse structures for the palms,,, build pvc frame around the palms cover it with greenhouse plastic and put a flood light or heat lamp in a metal fixture like those cheap ones you can buy at home depot,,we call them chicken lights but anyways put light down by the base of the palm hook it up to a thermostat and you should be fine,,,I would love to come out and build these for you but I live in kentucky ,,for a small fee that is oh their are also other tropicals you can winter over in the ground as well if you know what your doing,,the palms look great but the landscaping is to be desired ,,to starchy!!!Good luck with the winter issue-Jason.

have a suggestion for palm names- as a child we read a bedtime story about Winken, Blinken, and Nod- Thought this would be a good name for the palms since they are at a hotel.

Watching your progress carefully. We will be bringing palms to Michigan this year for an adventure. The comment by VP hotels about being strongly committed to their success was great. That and knowledge is all it will take. Of course it is going to work! Best of luck!
